Volunteer
No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. -Aesop
We need your help!
Volunteers enable us to care for more animals and provide more services to the community than we otherwise could.
Each year, animal shelters across the country are overburdened with aging, sick, and unwanted pets. These shelters are forced to make the difficult decision between turning these animals in need away or choosing to humanely euthanize a pet with a very manageable condition. Jane's Journey Home for Dogs strives to ease the burden on area animals shelters and veterinarians by offering education and other services to pet owners in order to better prepare them for the needs of their aging pet. "The Farm" provides a safe, loving retirement home that prioritizes the well-being of our senior friends in their final days, while our foster network provides one on one attention to those that need it most. We believe every pet deserves to live out their golden years, months, weeks or even days with dignity in a place of love, security and peace.
And we couldn’t even begin to do it without our compassionate and dedicated volunteers! Whether it’s hands-on at the farm, or at-home foster care, organizing a fundraising event, or helping with education and outreach in the community; volunteers play a vital role at Jane's each and every day!
We provide the training for all volunteer positions – no prior experience required. We offer transparency and compassion to both people and pets that need a second chance.
We look forward to helping you find a volunteer role that matches your skills, interests, and schedule; that benefits both you, our community, and most importantly, our furry companions.

Volunteer Requirements
-
Volunteer opportunities are available for anyone ages 8+ (unless otherwise approved.) Minors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or approved adult. Volunteers 16+ may volunteer without a parent AFTER 20 hours of supervised volunteer time has been completed, AND with signed liability waiver, AND at the discretion of JJH Staff. Volunteers ages 14 and up must attend Volunteer Orientation. Learn more about youth opportunities.
-
Because it takes both staff time and training; volunteer positions require a minimum six-month commitment.
-
We want our four-legged residents to get to know our volunteers and seeing you more often is the best way to do that! It is important that you also feel comfortable and relaxed when you visit Jane's Journey Home. In order to keep you involved and up to date on all of our latest policies and procedures, volunteers are asked to designate a 2-4 hour shift once per week. If you are unable to commit to a minimum of 2 hours per week please consider volunteering for a one-time group opportunity HERE.
-
Volunteers must read and comprehend detailed policy and protocol information and follow all shelter rules at all times.
-
All volunteer roles may require human interaction at times. Volunteers must always communicate professionally with staff, fellow volunteers, and members of the public.
